I have been asked to make a game about Mars for the upcoming live event: “Patriots Solar Systems Competition”. Eight teams will play the game on big-screen TVs as part of a competition that will send a group of middle-school kids to space camp for a week!
Needless to say I was pretty excited about doing this. I spent the first few days just researching the current technology and thinking related to Mars. I decided on a cooperative real-time strategy game where players have to maintain a colony of four astronauts on the red planet.
Gameplay involves moving your people around, planting and harvesting food, keeping the machines in good working order, performing science experiments (for bonus points!), and making sure that your colonists get enough food, sleep, and exercise.
